|
![]() |
Eric Raymond is a long time Linux hacher. He is the author of the Hacker's Dictionary and many Linux HOW-TO papers. His famous on-line essay The Cathedral and the Bazaar, recently published by O'Reilly and Associates, has been widely adopted by the Open Source movement as it's manifesto. Among other things, Netscape credited this document with convincing it to make it's Navigator browser open source. In the famous "Halloween" papers leaked by Microsoft employees, he first broke the story of Microsoft's strategy for combating Linux. He was also instrumental bringing Linux to the attention of the business community. For example he is credited with getting Linus Torvalds on the cover of Forbes in August '98.
He is also a board member of VA Linux Systems, the leading Linux computer maker.
More recently he has been traveling the world as a principal spokesmen for Linux. Recent speaking engagements include Linux World, August '98 in San Jose, Internet World in NYC, Atlanta Linux Showcase, Bob Metcalfe's Agenda 2000, Santa Clara Bar Association, Forbe's New Economy Conference, Goldman Sachs, NYC, Alternative Linux in Montreal Canada, Merril Lynch's Technology Advisory Board, Norwegian UNIX User Group, and Trinity College, Dublin.
